Goals and objectives

Our goal is to work within the means of nature’s resources such as soil, trees, plants, and water to provide an ongoing efficient ecosystem. We have literally everything we need to survive and lead happy and productive lives. Great Day will be a catalyst for  this ideology.

Plans to develop other portions of this land to fuse the sale of quality produce will be done in phases. Projects will include: a walking trail, bamboo forest for yoga, a botanic garden for photography opportunities and a farm to table eatery. With these great programs along with community leaders and citizens working together, it will allow for many relationships to blossom from it.

The farm will act as a life preserve to the individuals who are craving a need of a healthy lifestyle. The land will accomplish the goal of community, wellbeing, and   socialization to those who would otherwise be confined to a limited environment among other disadvantages.

FOUNDER'S NOTE

Our History

As a native Memphian, I have witnessed firsthand how poverty, crime, and limited access to healthy food can affect a community. Many of these challenges stem from a lack of jobs, inadequate education, and poor nutrition. My grandparents and parents dedicated their lives to serving those in need, opening homes for the mentally disabled in 1979. In those homes, food from a garden nourished the residents, teaching care, responsibility, and the value of healthy eating. Over time, this commitment expanded to include a banquet hall, where guests enjoyed fellowship and quality meals, and an assisted living facility—always centered on food and service.

Through my work in these sectors, I began to notice a recurring problem: even when families had funds, access to fresh, quality food was often limited. Stores offering better options were frequently far away, while convenience stores stocked primarily processed foods, alcohol, and cigarettes. This lack of nutritious options is linked to both physical and mental health challenges in underserved neighborhoods.

In 2019, I purchased the property that would become Great Day Farm. The land sits in an urban community that has experienced many of these challenges. Years earlier, my grandmother coined the phrase “Great Day!!” She would say it in the most unexpected moments—after a hardship or when hearing a troubling story. To her, no matter the circumstances, there was always hope for a better tomorrow. That spirit guides us today.

Great Day Farm has sprouted with the goal of restoring the beauty and purpose of a community that once thrived on homegrown foods. Here, we invite people to work the land, learn how food is grown, and participate in meaningful, hands-on experiences. The farm is a place to grow together—vegetables, herbs, and community alike—and to bring restoration, health, and opportunity back to a neighborhood that has long needed it.

Through this work, we honor the legacy of family, the lessons of the land, and the promise that, even in challenging times, every day can be a Great Day
